Recap: Four in the Morning Ep. 1 & 2

I haven’t enough time to write about this show, right after the premiere night, and I feel bad about it. Today airs 3rd episode, so it’s about the time to write something!

After I watched the trailer for the show Four in the Morning, I thought it’ll be a comedy something like a mix of Broad City and new version of Friends. I couldn’t be more wrong. It’s a completely different sense of humor. This show is also perfect in its simplicity. Little pearl of nowadays television.

Created by producer and writer, Ira Parker. Starring by Mazin Elsadig, Daniel Maslany, Michelle Mylett and Lola Tash.

The show tells the story of four friends in their twenties as they navigate life at the unpredictable, emotional, but the illuminative hour of 4 a.m., it’s a series about self-discovery, disappointment, and clawing after dreams that always feel out of reach.

Four in the morning perfectly shows that completely different people can be best friends. We can see Bondurant (Daniel Maslany), who’s an artist, he’s really funny in his own way. William (Mazin Elsadig) is little reserved and also an artist, but his friend thinks the opposite. Writers can’t be an artist, no one reads books anymore! William’s dating Jamie (Michelle Mylett) who is best friend with Mitzi (Lola Tash), Bondurat’s girlfriend. Girls have other points of view for some stuff.

This show is a comedy, but with a specific sense of humor, some moments are like a surreal dream. Like the talking pig, which we’ve heard about in the first episode, and I think it’s not the end

Four in the Morning has that kind of humor I adore. Maybe it’s not much funny situations, but it’s a funny dialogue. I think it’s really similar to Woody Allen’s humor from his first films.

I also have to mention about the music. Subtle, playing in the background. Sound a little like a retro, it’s so different than music on other TV shows. The opening credits are amazing, because of the music and the animation with a pig.

I think many young people will identify with those characters. They’re ordinary young people with real problems, up’s and downs in their lives. It’s so great that Ira Parker wanted to create that kind of show, about ordinary people that the joy of life.

I love the idea for this show, the cast is great, the storytelling is very convincing. Definitely one of my favorite shows!

Four in the Morning airs Fridays at 9 p.m. on CBC.

  1. You liked it….wow
Four in the Morning is a poor attempt at Woody Allen humor….
To quote W.A : I was nauseous and tingly all over. I was either in love or I had smallpox.
P.s I was not in love with this.

    • Thanks for reading.
If it’s about humor, probably no one will never do something like Allen did. When I mentioned this I meant that the form is similar, a lot of talking. Regarding the level of humor, is not what should be compare, because the two are different.
No one have to like the same things, that would be boring. 🙂
